Organizing the Shower

It’s been a while without a bathroom post, huh?  I had one last project from my bathroom makeover that I never got around to posting so I wanted to share it with you today.

If you haven’t noticed from my medicine and first aid organization post, the Silhouette Cameo makes an awesome label maker.  I love being able to pick my favorite font, size and format my label and then cut it out of any color vinyl or cardstock I like.  My old tape label maker definitely couldn’t do that.

I wasn’t happy with how my shower “organizer” was organizing my shower.  As you can see, there wasn’t enough space and it was packed with lots of different sized bottles that didn’t fit well.

I wanted to find some uniform containers so that I wasn’t trying to fit all of these random bottles together.  I love having the pump on my shampoo container so I looked around for some reasonably priced soap dispensers.  I found these teal ones (they match the paint in the bathroom surprisingly well) at Bed Bath & Beyond on clearance for $6 a piece with matching soap dish for $3.

Organized Shower Caddy

I found the extra wide shower caddy at Burlington Coat Factory for $10.  It’s so nice to have so much more space (and to get rid of the old rusted one – I can’t get that rust mark off my wall).

Obviously, I couldn’t just leave 3 unlabeled bottles in the shower and hope to not wash my hair with conditioner.  I designed and labeled each bottle using my Silhouette.  I carefully added each label to the bottles on a diagonal (basically because I thought it looked cooler).  I used the Silhouette Premium Vinyl and it’s held up to the water and soap in the shower wonderfully.

Free Cut File

If you’d like to use these same labels in your shower (be sure not to actually use the Silhouette while in the shower or any other electronics, for that matter), I’ve added the Silhouette Studio file to my account for you to download.

  1. Such a great idea! I love how you used matching containers. That really makes the shower look nicer and neater.

    • Thanks Laura Jane! I really am happy with how they look. Your filing cabinet is awesome, by the way. I’ve been meaning to do something like that but haven’t gotten the courage yet but all those Pinterest pictures are definitely calling to me.

  2. That looks fantastic! I love the look of monochromatic accessories – so much cleaner!

It’s amazing what a big impact a small project can make! I bet it makes you smile every morning.

  4. that is a good idea! it looks like something from IKEA or bed bath and beyond! i like that the letters are offset too!

  5. This is really cool! On our last vacation, our hotel had those containers with compartment for shampoo, conditioner, and soap. This looks like a much more thrifty (and personal) option!

    • My parents used to have one of those separated containers (boy could I make some cool labels for that now?). I’m not sure how much they run but I like the style of these containers. It’s kind of funny to think of putting style into your shower but I definitely like it.

  6. mel mccarthy says:

Oh man! You’re making me wanna try vinyl for the first time (and go shopping for more soap pumps). Completely brilliant, Beth!

  7. Wow, what a transformation! I really like the diagonal labeling (so creative) and those teal containers are so eye-catching. I’d probably get distracted just staring at them! Ha ha. And thanks for the reminder not to use my Silhouette in the shower. We’ve been attached at the hip lately, so that’s a welcomed reminder. ;-)

    • Thanks Lauren! I do actually get slightly distracted by them but it’s usually because I’m amazed at how close they are to the color on the walls. So I spend some shower time staring at them and the wall (especially if I’m tired).
I figured I needed to add a little public service announcement about the dangers of electrocution with my misleading title. I’m glad it’s helped at least one person ;)

      • Ha ha! I thought the title was great…definitely makes the ears perk up, which is tough to do in this over-stimulated internet land. So props to you!

        • I would be a little concerned about what traffic I get from Google searches (the keywords shower and Silhouette probably don’t show up together too often or with very appropriate images) but otherwise it should catch people’s attention.

  8. Coley says:

Too bad you can’t really use the Silhouette in the shower, eh? But I guess our machines need a little break! ;) Love your containers – no accidentally mixing them up now that they are nice and labeled!

  9. hsmominmo says:

Thanks to you and Lauren and pinterest, the Sillouhette is most definitely at the top of my Christmas Wish List.
    Happy showering :)

    • Thanks Linda! I love the Silhouette. I hope you get one. I’m sure there’s a ton of awesome homeschooling projects you could do, in addition to all the cool crafts to make.

  10. Kathi says:

The bottles look great, and turquoise/aqua is my favorite color currently. :-) You know, I never even thought of using a pump bottle for shampoo but now I’m going to have to go buy one because it sounds so practical and so much easier.

    • I love the aqua blue, it’s so fresh in the bathroom. I bought some of the big shampoo containers with pump tops and wasn’t able to go back. I hope you’re able to find something you like.
